かつて「東洋のパリ」と呼ばれた美しい首都プノンペンは、クメール語で「ペン（夫人）の丘」という意味だそう。信心深いペン夫人は川を流れてきた仏像を、近くの丘に祠を作り手厚く祀ったことが由来となっている。滞在中のシハヌークビルからは、中国が作った全長約190kmの高速道路で2時間半ほどの距離。日系のイオンモールが3つもあり、日本の文化が浸透しつつある。
A beautiful capital Phnom Penh was called as “Oriental Paris”. Phom Penh means in Kumer “Hill of lady Penh” who enshrined generously the Buddha statue flown down the river. A China made highway makes 2 and half hours driving between Phnom Penh and Sihanoukeville. There are 3 large scale AEON Shipping Malls in Phnom Penh which introduce Japanese cultures to Cambodia.
荒涼とした平野部を貫通する高速道路、以前はプノンペンとシハヌークビル間、5時間かかっていたが、この高速道路のお陰で2時間半で移動できる。
It took 5 hours before but now only 2 and half hours driving between Phnom Penh and Sihanoukville.
